Vintage 2002
|
| Grape blend : 60 % cabernet sauvignon - 34 % merlot - 6% petit-verdot. |
| The weather :
A wet spring followed by a difficult flowering with a noticeable percentage
of loss. July on average but august lacking sunshine and heat led to a depressive
situation by the end of the third week. Then beautifull weather with hardly
any rains for 7 weeks however lacking some heat but with an abundance of
light. Harvest started historically late the 1st of October (not seen since
1981 at Caronne) and was led under perfect conditions until the 10th of
October. A miraculous year. September substituted itself to August with talent but not replacing it. |

Château Caronne Ste Gemme 2002 Medium-full colour. Good fruit and class if without a great deal of depth on the nose. Good structure. Ripe, plump and balanced on the palate. The finish is long. There is more to it than I thought on the nose. Good plus. I tasted it a second time at the Château. The fresh sample there was very impressive. Very good plus. From 2007 WINE MAGAZINE Avril 2003 Dense, chunky blackcurrant fruit, with ripe tannins and a good length. - 85/87. 2007-2011. La Revue du Vin de France Mai 2003 BETTANE & DESSEAUVE Avril 2003 Selected in the 30 best Haut-Médoc including
crus classes. 7/10 |
